Creative movement: 3-7 years
This program will introduce children to rhythm, mime, fantasy, improvisation, choreography, stretching and strengthening. In The creative movement classes a great deal of emphasis is Placed on enjoyment of the art of dance while maintaining the discipline required for any artistic endeavor.
Ballet Technique: 8 years and up
Ballet classes are designed to expose students to the disciplined beauty of classical ballet. Proper body alignment is emphasized as strengthening and stretching.
Jazz: 9 years and up
Jazz classes will be a combination of many styles and techniques. Proper technique, body placement and healthy work habits will be stressed.
Hip-Hop: 9 years and up
This energizing and up-lifting form of dance is closely related to the music that emerged from the “street” culture. Barry’s classes will include basic hip-hop moves that will involve rhythm- mic combinations.
Modern: 10 years and up
Modern dance is a multi-disciplined approach to contemporary training and technique. Exploration of breath/rhythm principles, weight, momentum and release will encourage greater free- dom of movement.
Tap: 9 years and up
The rhythmic, precise sounds and movements of tap will be taught at an introductory level. The intensive focus on musicality and ease of movement will be a tremendous addition to our curriculum.
Intensive Program:
Curriculuum: Androscoggin Dance intensive program provides at least 12 - 14 hours a week of pre-professional training. Instruction is given in ballet, pointe work, modern dance, jazz and hip-hop (optional). Insruction is also given in "special subjects"--- health, nutrition, physical conditioning, dance history, balancing priorities and career planning. Commitment and a strong work ethic are required.
Philosophy: The faculty wants its students to develop to their fullest potential as dancers. we want our graduates to function professionally at their highest level as individuals but also cooperatively in groups. We also want our students to develop

Elizabeth Hansen: Artistic director and choreographer(ballet,jazz,modern) trained at Skidmore college.
Rachel Gantaume-Richards(ballet) trained and danced with Joffry Ballet, New Yok City.
Lacey Moyse:(ballet) trained with Maine State Ballet
Amelia Pullen: (ballert, modern,jazz) Bachelor of arts in dance, Belhaven College, Mississippi.
Robin Vermillion: (ballet) trained at the University of Cincinnati.
Barry Dean: (hip hop) trained in Southside Chicago.
Admission: Admission to the Intensive program is by audition or invitation to audition only, for high school students or other advanced students. Interested students should contact Elizabeth Hansen at 784-3246 or dancecenterauburn@yahoo.com.
Tuition policies: The Dance Center makes advance commitments for faculty, facilities and services that are essential to it's operation. Payment of tuition is due in full prior to the beginning of each session, and payments must be kept current. Individual payment plans and need based scholarships may be available. Classes canceled because of weather or uncontrollable conditions will be rescheduled. Students are expected to attend all classes except for serious injury, serious illness or reasons beyond their control.
Because of advance commitments, tuition for student absence from class regretably cannot be refunded.
Performing: The Dance Center works in cooperation with Androscoggin Dance Company. Androscoggin Dance Company is a local non-profit company that performs locally. Androscoggin Dance Company is the resident dance company at the Franco-American Heritage Center. Students from The Dance Center intensive program and regular classes are invited to audition for parts in Androscoggin Dance performances. All students will perform in our annual student performance at the end of the school year.
